What is CoSpaces EDU?

CoSpaces EDU is a kid and student-friendly virtual reality game that allows users to create their own world through virtual reality. The App can be accessed through computer desktop and tablet devices. CoSpaces allows for a 3D creation toolbox, a 3D physics engine, and scripted languages. These features are great for storytelling, virtual exhibition, and game design and coding. Students are able to demonstrate knowledge in engaging new ways through interacting in their virtual worlds with peers. A major benefit to CoSpaces is that is able to offer new ways for creative approaches for students. (Delightex GmbH, 2023)

How can it be used in the classroom to foster creativity?

CoSpaces is a great way to promote creativity within classrooms as it can encourage design creation, collaboration, and exploration. From the Science and Technology K–6 Syllabus, › plans and uses materials, tools, and equipment to develop solutions for a need or opportunity ST3-2DP-T (Science & technology NESA, 2017), students’ creativity can be enhanced as relating to this dot point, as CoSpaces could be applied to a lesson. This could be through allowing students to collaborate together by bringing their ideas to life on CoSpaces as teamwork allows communication and problem-solving. Storytelling on CoSpaces is great for a need of opportunity as creating 3D environments adds new dimensions and experiences, making it more interactive and engaging.

Pedagogical Reflections

Constructivism- CoSpaces allows students to witness and control their own experiences to understand why and how they have chosen their decisions through creating. This promotes interpretation through their levels of thinking (Huang & Liaw, 2018). CoSpaces also allows design-based thinking and learning as students have free creative control to make their ideas a reality online. This can be through making new characters or creatures that have been found through inspiration from class activities or topics. This could be from a film or novel that is focused on a certain subject.

Limitations

Limitations involving CoSpaces EDU, is unfortunately that the full version of the game does come at a cost and there is only a certain amount of tools users can access through the free version of the game.
